The Italian tennis would have chosen his new coach: here who is him
The Italian tennis player Matteo Berrettini would have chosen his new coach, who would be Thomas Enqvist. The Italian seems close to choosing the new coach who will follow him for next season, in which he will try to redeem himself after a 2022 that didn’t live up to expectations due to numerous injuries.
Berrettini is aiming for a real turning point to return to competing at the highest levels and the latest rumors have indicated that the former Swedish tennis player is the number one candidate to sit in the Italian’s corner in 2024.
According to the Italian media, the rumors may be concrete and true. The two met at the 2021 Laver Cup in Boston, with the 49-year-old former world number 4 joining Bjorn Borg in the Europe team in the role of vice-captain.
And the Stockholm native had particularly appreciated Berrettini’s talent: “He really impressed me both as an athlete and as a person. He is really strong as well as being a great guy.”
Matteo Berrettini’d have chosen his new coach
For the current director of the Stockholm tournament, which the 27-year-old had to participate in to return to the tour after the injury at the US Open (only to then withdraw as a precaution to avoid worse trouble), it would be an important new adventure after guiding Stefanos Tsitsipas for a short period in 2022.
It will truly be a new beginning for Matteo Berrettini, who in 13 years with Vincenzo Santopadre has achieved incredible goals such as number 6 in the ranking and participation in the Nitto ATP Finals (faded on the pitch during the debut match with Zverev due to yet another physical problem).
Fans will just have to be patient at this stage: a situation similar to that experienced by Jannik Sinner, when he chose to separate from Riccardo Piatti and start a collaboration with Simone Vagnozzi and then Darren Cahill.
Almost two years later, Sinner has put all his teachings to good use and has now become one of the best tennis players in the world.
