Carlos Alcaraz gets a bad injury, goodbye to the ATP throne

The Spaniard withdrawn from the ATP 500 in Basel after suffering an injury on his left foot and on his gluteal muscles

A bad news shocked Carlos Alcaraz’s fans: the Spaniard withdrawn from the ATP 500 in Basel, after suffering an injury that immediately alarmed the Spanish fans.

The young 20-year-old announced that he had suffered an inflammation in his left foot and a small discomfort in his gluteal muscles. For this reason the Spanish player, in mutual agreement with the technical staff led by coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, has made the decision to withdraw from the Swiss event, scheduled from 23 to 29 October.

Carlitos’ withdrawal freed up a place for the expert home tennis player Stan Wawrinka, who thus entered the main draw without taking advantage of the wild card. The pass entrusted by the organizers was reassigned to the young 21 year old Leandro Riedi.

Alcaraz hopes to return to top form to participate in the ATP Master 1000 in Paris Bercy: the event in France, in which Novak Djokovic will be present, anticipates the great season finale with the Nitto ATP Finals.

The withdrawall from Basel significantly complicates the Spaniard’s possibility of ending the year as world number one: however, very positive news for the Serbian champion, who can retain his position.

Alcaraz: “I missed many opportunities to finish the year as number 1”
After the bitter elimination in Shanghai, Alcaraz declared that it had become more difficult for him to finish the season as number 1.

“With this defeat, I’m a little further ahead and it will be harder if I want to be number 1. I have some tournaments ahead, so I will try to do my best. I’ll try to win them if I want to have a chance to finish the year as No. 1. I don’t know, but right now I’ve missed a lot of opportunities to make it,” he said

We remind you that the Serbian will defend important points at the end of the year including the victory of the Nitto ATP Finals, the final lost against the Danish Holger Rune in the ATP Masters 1000 in Paris and the victory of the Astana Open 500 beating the Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.

The Spanish tennis player, however, due to an injury during the quarterfinals of the last season ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris, did not participate in the 2022 Finals in Turin at the end of the year.
