Carlos Alcaraz gets honest on prospect of meeting Novak Djokovic in US Open final

Both Alcaraz and Djokovic have been through to the US Open semifinal.

Carlos Alcaraz says it “would be great” if he indeed got a chance to play Novak Djokovic in the US Open final. Alcaraz, the defending US Open champion, saw off Alexander Zverev 6-3 6-2 6-4 to set up a US Open semifinal against Daniil Medvedev.

On the other side, No 2 seed Djokovic is playing against Ben Shelton in the US Open semifinal. Even before the start of the tournament, Alcaraz and Djokovic were heavily tipped to meet in the final. Now, they are just a win away from meeting in a third consecutive Grand Slam.

“It would be great to play a final against Novak here in New York, but we, well, both of us have really tough semifinal, so let’s see. But obviously both of us are looking for that potential final,” Alcaraz said, via Tennis Now.

Alcaraz hopes to seal a Djokovic final
Last year, 20-year-old Alcaraz became a Grand Slam champion after beating Casper Ruud in the US Open final.

Now, Alcaraz has fairly routinely made the US Open semifinal as he has dropped just one set en route to reaching the last four stage. After a straight-set win over Zverev, Alcaraz said he is “looking forward to a great battle” against Medvedev.

“I’m very, very comfortable playing in this court, playing here in New York. I am showing my best level here. Last year was very tough, since the fourth round I played five sets [to get to the final]. Here I’ve played just one match that has gone to four sets.

I feel great physically and I’m ready to play a great battle with Medvedev in the semi-finals,” Alcaraz said after sealing a Medvedev meeting. So far this year, Alcaraz has had two straight-set wins over Medvedev at the Indian Wells Masters and Wimbledon. Going into the match, Alcaraz is again the favorite to beat Medvedev.
