Coco Gauff reveals her most ambitious goal

During the press conference at this week’s China Open, Gauff said he wants to win more Slams in the future

Coco Gauff had a sensational two months between August and September, winning three tournaments, culminating in her triumph at the 2023 US Open. But this is just a launching pad for the young North American tennis player, who has other important goals for the rest of her career.

During the press conference at this week’s China Open, Gauff said he wants to win more Slams in the future: “I think maybe because my enthusiasm and my ambition are so high, I don’t want to end up with just one Slam. I don’t feel any different .

The first couple of days I did it, then once I got home, I was like: Okay, it’s back to normal.”

Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff will return to the court in Beijing. The Belarusian will play her first tournament as number one in the world rankings.

The young American, however, will return to the court after making history at the US Open.

Sabalenka will face Sofia Kenin and, if she wins, she will meet one of the players from the qualifiers in the second round. The first seed in her path is Beatriz Haddad Maia, Jasmine Paolini’s opponent.

Elena Rybakina and Barbora Krejcikova were then drawn in the same quarter-final as Sabalenka. The Kazakh also withdrew last week due to a physical problem and will have to evaluate her condition before the match with Qinwen Zheng.

The main candidates for reaching the semi-final appear to be Jessica Pegula, Jelena Ostapenko and Ons Jabeur. The four semi-finalists of the Tokyo tournament will benefit from a rest round: Pegula, Veronika Kudermetova, Maria Sakkari and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Jabeur, in the final in Ningbo, will therefore have very little time to recover. Jabeur is present on the path of Elisabetta Cocciaretto, engaged against Marta Kostyuk. Iga Swiatek will try to raise her head in Beijing.

The former world number one reached the quarter-finals in Tokyo, losing in 2 hours and 21 minutes to Kudermetova.

The Pole will find Sara Sorribes Tormo on the other side of the net on her debut with the hope of being able to reach one of Varvara Gracheva or Anastasia Potapova in the second round.

The round of 16 would become very complicated if Victoria Azarenka were to respect the prediction by beating competition from Magda Linette and Jennifer Brady.

In the quarterfinals, however, Swiatek could draw Caroline Garcia or Marketa Vondrousova.

Gauff, for her part, will start playing with Ekaterina Alexandrova. Considering the ranking of the tennis players present in Beijing, the dangers for the American should be Sorana Cirstea, Kudermetova, Daria Kastkina and Sakkari.

The dream of all tennis fans is to watch a semi-final between Gauff and Swiatek. The last direct clash was won in Cincinnati by the 19 year old from Atlanta.
