Pegula has noticed some positive changes in Svitolina’s tennis.
Jessica Pegula suggests pregnancy helped Elina Svitolina hit the reset button and revealed she feels the Ukrainian now plays a more aggressive type of tennis. On Saturday, world No 3 Pegula defeated former world No 3 Svitolina 6-4 4-6 6-2 in the US Open third round.
Since returning to tennis in April, 28-year-old Svitolina has made some pretty impressive results, most notably reaching the Wimbledon semifinal. “The last few times I played her before she had her baby, she seemed like a little run down, I feel like.
So, I don’t know, maybe her getting pregnant was good timing for her to go back and reset. I don’t know, sometimes that’s what you need. That’s what players do. I think we’ve seen that with Wozniacki and several other girls that had babies.
It’s a nice reset. Definitely playing a little bit more aggressive, but at the same time still her game. It makes it really tough because you’re not quite sure what to do as much maybe as before,” Pegula said of Svitolina.

Pegula beats Svitolina for the second time this summer
Last month, Pegula defeated Svitolina in three sets on the hard courts of Washington.
After beating Svitolina in Washington, Pegula claimed another three-set win over the Ukrainian at the US Open. In the first set of their US Open match, Pegula broke Svitolina in the fifth game and then held on to her service for the remainder of the first set to clinch the opener.
In the 10th game of the second set – with Svitolina leading 5-4 and Pegula serving to stay in the set – the Ukrainian broke the American to send the match into a decider. After winning the second set, Svitolina also had a 2-1 lead after the first three games of the third set but without breaks. Then, Pegula claimed back-to-back breaks and won the next five games to complete a three-set win over Svitolina.
