Kyrgios says there’s one game in which he would probably have no problems beating Djokovic.
Nick Kyrgios jokingly told Novak Djokovic basketball is one thing he would definitely beat him and the Serb agreed – but noted he wouldn’t beat him in a three-point contest. On his Instagram, Djokovic posted a video of his hoops session with Andrey Rublev.
In the post, Djokovic tagged Russian basketball legend Andrei Kirilenko and asked him to share his thoughts on how their session went. “Some hoops with @andreyrublev from earlier today. @ak47russ what do you think of our skill?” Djokovic captioned his Instagram post.
In the comment section, Kyrgios wrote: “This is one thing I’d beat you in hahahahahahaha.” Djokovic responded: “k1ngkyrg1os you probably would… But not from ‘downtown.’ ”
Kyrgios explained why he was beaten by Djokovic in the 2022 Wimbledon final
Kyrgios, 28, made his first Grand Slam singles final at Wimbledon last year.
Kyrgios made a very strong start to the 2022 Wimbledon final, winning the first set with a 6-4 score against Djokovic. Although Kyrgios played at a high level for the entire match, he still suffered a four-set defeat as Djokovic won 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 (3).
In the second season of Netflix’s Break Point, Kyrgios said Djokovic wasn’t panicking in the moments when many would crumble. “I played lights out. I played the best first set I could possibly have played. He’s so mentally in tune with everything.
It’s a great start, it’s exactly what I wanted. But I don’t want to be behind against Novak. He kept his composure in certain moments where another player would have started to panic. He didn’t show me,” Kyrgios said in Netflix’s tennis documentary Break PointIt is not a secret that Kyrgios and Djokovic’s relationship wasn’t the best in the past.
But when Kyrgios decided to publicly defend Djokovic during the Australia visa saga, their entire relationship changed for the better. Since then, Kyrgios and Djokovic have actually become friends and they often speak extremely highly of each other.
