Novak Djokovic addresses return to US, answers if he regrets missing last two years

This week in Cincinnati, Djokovic officially made his return to the US.

Novak Djokovic says he is very happy and excited to be back in the United States but noted that he has “zero regrets” over the reason he was unable to compete in US tournaments for two years. This week in Cincinnati, Djokovic officially kicked off his first tournament on American soil since the 2021 US Open.

In 2022, Djokovic missed all US tournaments because he wasn’t allowed to enter the country as an unvaccinated foreigner. Earlier this year, Djokovic also missed the Masters events in Indian Wells and Miami due to the same reason.

In May, the US confirmed COVID-19 policy change and Djokovic is now allowed to enter the country as an unvaccinated foreigner.

Djokovic happy to return to the US but has no regrets
“Throughout my life I’ve really developed this kind of mindset that I don’t look back with regret on things.

Things happening on the outside, the reason I was not here for two years, I have zero regrets. I’m glad to be back. I’ve had plenty of success on American soil. I’m very excited to return to the country after two years; I’m very grateful for all the love that people are giving me,” Djokovic said in Cincinnati. This week, Djokovic is playing in the city of Cincinnati for the first time since 2019.

In 2020, the Cincinnati Masters took place in the bubble in New York – Djokovic won the title that year. On Wednesday, Djokovic kicked off his Cincinnati singles campaign as he had a 6-4 lead over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina when the Spaniard retired the match due to injury.”Time flies.

Four years seems like it was yesterday. So it’s definitely nice to be back. I’ve had some really nice memories from this tournament. Winning it in 2018 obviously is a highlight for me, because it was the only Masters I hadn’t won for years.

I think I lost four or five finals mostly to Roger [Federer].But I played well in the past and was really glad to have a chance to come back to the States. It’s been two years. I missed it. Some of the biggest tournaments in our sport are played on American soil. I’m just excited to play some tennis,” Djokovic said.
