Djokovic is happy to see a veteran of the sport finding early success.
Novak Djokovic reacted on Instagram after Caroline Wozniacki won her first match after coming back to the WTA Tour in Montreal. Wozniacki won in straight sets against Kimberly Birrell to reach the second round. “Welcome back, Caro!” Djokovic wrote on his Instagram Stories.
Nole appreciates Wozniacki a lot for what she achieved during her career. As proof, the Serbian joined Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in a joint farewell message when Caroline retired back in 2020.
Wozniacki after her sweet victory
Caroline Wozniacki was all smiles after victory in Montreal.
“It feels pretty great – I won my first match back,” said Wozniacki, beaming after the match. “I love playing here in Montreal”. Wozniacki’s next opponent is none other than Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova.
Yet, Caroline doesn’t put too much pressure on herself. “People around me, I feel like they’re going to expect so much now,” the Czech said.”I know if you’re a Grand Slam champion, the expectations are very high but for me, it’s important to stay in my small circle and just work on things.
[I want to] just get through some matches, with nerves and everything and just get used to the pressure. So that’s what I’m working on now.”
