Venus and Serena played doubles together during Serena’s farewell at the 2022 US Open.
Venus Williams has confirmed once again that she is done with doubles following Serena Williams’ retirement. Last September, Venus teamed up with Serena for the women’s doubles event at the US Open. At last year’s US Open, Serena was playing her final tournament.
For her final tournament, Serena wanted to play doubles one more time with her sister Venus. The Williams captured 14 Grand Slam doubles together. Since then, Venus has said several times that she is not playing doubles anymore.
But some keep asking Venus is she is going to play doubles again. Most recently, Venus was asked if there was any chance of playing mixed doubles with her good friend Reilly Opelka at the US Open.
Venus Williams: I played doubles with Serena, now I’m done with it
“That’s a long way away.
It’d be two big serves and that’d be a lot of fun but I think Reilly should focus on the singles. And I’m actually retired from doubles. I keep saying it and no one believes me but I’ve seen the mountaintop, played with the best, played with Serena and it doesn’t get much better than that.
And as much as I’d love to play with lots of people, including one of my friends Reilly, I think I’ve done it all in doubles,” Williams said in a video posted on her YouTube channel. At the US Open last year, the Williams sisters didn’t make it far.
In the US Open women’s doubles first round, the Williams sisters suffered a first-round defeat to Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova. When Serena announced she would be retiring at the 2022 US Open, some felt Venus would also retire after the 2022 US Open.
But Venus didn’t do that and she continued her career beyond last year’s US Open. This upcoming week, Venus is competing at a WTA 1000 event in Montreal after receiving a wildcard.
